　　Goodbye这个词不但是大家耳熟能详,而且它是个非常古老的词,在很久以前是"God be with you." 的意思,也是说“当在你离开之后上帝也与你同在”.但是现在我们比较少讲"Goodbye",因为感觉好像你离去后,就很久、很久再也见不到你,所以如果你只是暂时出去一下,我们会说："See you around."

　　其实跟朋友道别的方法可以说是多得数不清,除了这个"See you around."之外,还有"See you later."、"See you again soon."、"Catch you later"、"Bye."等等.

　　对话

　　A:Has the bell rung yet?

　　甲:钟已经响过了吗?

　　B:Yes,it has.

　　乙:嗯,响过了.

　　A:I’d better go to class then.

　　甲:那我要去上课了.

　　B:Right.See you around.

　　乙:好吧,待会儿再见.

　　A:Ok.See you later.

　　甲:对,待会儿见.

　　跟人道别,假如同一天就会再次见面,那么除了说See you around.,还可以说See you later.See you in a little while.、See you soon.等,意思都是‘稍后再见’.假如要说明再见的时间,可说See you this afternoon / tonight.（下午/ 今晚再见）等.回答可以说OK.、Fine.、All right.、That’s right.等.当然人家说See you around.你答以See you later.也绝对可以.

　　Goodbye则多是指明天或以后再见.较随便也较常用的说法是Bye.、Bye now.、Bye-bye.、So long.、Be seeing you.、See you.、Cheerio.、Ciao.等.回答一般也是Bye.、 Bye now.之类.

　　至于长时间的分别,道别语一般会加些祝福的话,例如：Goodbye Tom,and all the best.（汤姆,再见,祝事事顺利）、Goodbye Tom,and good luck.(汤姆,再见,祝一帆风顺）.

　　晚上八点钟左右之后跟人说再见,可用Good night.（晚安）.留意Good night.和Good evening.不同：Good evening.是晚上相见时的客套语,例如约了朋友晚上八点钟吃饭,大家见面时应说Good evening.,不可说Good night..而在电话上说再见,一般是说Bye.、Bye now.、Bye-bye.等,不论双方即日会不会见面.
